Article: Why Tiny Homes as a Path Out of Homelessness Makes Sense

ree

I’ve been through some tough times in my life, personally and professionally, and I know firsthand how easily everything can spiral out of control. But I also know what it feels like to rise from those ashes, to rebuild, and to find stability again. And that’s why, when I think about the homeless crisis we face today, I know that tiny homes are not just a good idea—they are a lifeline.  I’m not talking about just a roof over someone’s head. I’m talking about giving people who have lost everything something so much more—dignity, security, and the chance to regain their lives. Tiny homes can be the first step toward a future that doesn’t feel so impossible.

A Community to Lean On

Individuals experiencing homelessness have shared that it’s easy to feel isolated. They know what it’s like to feel disconnected from the world along with a sense of a loss of community. Here at Sanctuary Village, that will not be the case. Our tiny home village is designed to foster connection. People living in our villages will not be alone—they will have the support of our dedicated and compassionate team members as well as the company of others who are on similar journeys. And that shared experience, that support, can be the difference between someone staying stuck in the cycle of homelessness or finding their way out.

We’re working hard to ensure that in a Sanctuary Village community residents will find a sense of solidarity that is incredibly powerful, a place where people can support each other, share resources, and offer encouragement. A place where individuals can find hope again, not just in themselves, but in others who understand what they’ve been through. For me, having people who truly understood my challenges without judgment was one of the things that helped me keep going. Tiny homes offer that same chance for connection, for support, for community.

Breaking the Cycle

Tiny homes are more than just a place to sleep—they are an opportunity to break the cycle. For many people experiencing homelessness, this isn’t just a temporary situation; it’s a years-long struggle. Tiny homes offer a bridge to a new life. They offer security, a place to get one's bearings, and the chance to start over.  When you have a place to sleep at night, a safe, private space, you can start thinking about the next step. You can focus on finding work, getting an education, or accessing the support you need. Tiny homes give people the opportunity to get their lives back on track, step by step. And sometimes, that’s all someone needs—to have a roof over their head, a little bit of privacy, and a chance to build their future again.

We Can’t Wait Any Longer

I know that change takes time, and that fixing homelessness won’t happen overnight. But I also know that we can’t keep waiting for the perfect solution to show up. Every day that someone spends living without shelter is another day they’re at risk—another day they feel forgotten, unseen, and unheard. Tiny homes are a solution that can make a real difference now, and it’s time we start taking action.  The time for change is now. Let’s make it happen.
